Ted Simon’s Website Hacked

Posted on March 28, 2015 in News & Views

Ted Simon is famous for his 1973 circumnavigation of the world on a Triumph Tiger 100 motorcycle, clocking up a respectable 64,000 miles in four years and travelling through 45 countries. He wrote about his adventure in the book Jupiter’s Travels. In 2001, at the age of 70 he repeated the endeavour on a much similar route and has since been heralded as the man who prompted Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman to launch their Long Way Round adventure. Anyway it seems he has attracted the wrong sort of interest and the homepage of his...

South Africa with Vuka Africa

Posted on December 22, 2014 in Touring & Travel

Some of you will know that a group of eight of us spent 14 days in South Africa in November touring some of the most spectacular scenery you can imagine off-road. We were all on 1200GSs (with one 700) covering hundreds of kilometers. Starting in Cape Town we travelled east to George and beyond to Port Elizabeth capturing the infamous Baviaanskloof and the Swartberg Pass. We travelled down into ““Die Hel”” and back, staying in Oudtshoorn, Prinze Albert and Knysna! I spent so much time stood up on the bike it felt weird to sit down...

Alps & Dolomites 2014 (Final Part)

Posted on December 16, 2014 in Touring & Travel

By Rodney Rayner. Jul 16 2014, 07:07 PM  Rodney writes home on the last day of his trip to the Alps & Dolomites   I left Orbey at 08:30 after having coffee & croissant in beautiful sunshine, over looking the Vosges. The trouble with staying at the top of a very big hill in the middle of nowhere is that it takes an extra 35 minutes to reach a road that does go somewhere! The day was a slog up the motorway to Calais getting on the 15:50 train. Around 400 miles today. The total mileage for the trip was 2537 miles. I can’t say it...

Alps & Dolomites 2014 (Part 10)

Posted on November 26, 2014 in Touring & Travel

By Rodney Rayner. Jul 14 2014, 06:22 PM  Rodney writes home whilst on his trip to the Alps & Dolomites   We left Andermatt this morning in beautiful sunshine, the mountains looked perfect. What a contrast to a week ago. We ride over the fabulous Susten pass and stopped at the top for a sunshine picture of the bikes as last week I took the same picture with them covered in snow. Down the other side and stopped for a coffee in Innertkirchen and met a bunch of English guys from alpineroads.com. Apart from the Aussie Brit guy yesterday these...
